Insurance Fraud

Insurance fraud is a growing problem in the insurance industry today. Each time someone is successful at defrauding an insurance company with false or inflated claims, it costs you money. In 1997 the Canadian Coalition of Insurance Fraud conducted a study and established that the cost of insurance fraud at that time was an estimated $1.3 billion each year. Essentially 10% to 15% of all insurance claims were considered potentially fraudulent.

Of course we realize that the majority of our policy holders are honest, however insurance fraud is a problem for our company and the insurance industry as a whole. It is very tempting for some individuals to claim a higher value on a lost or damaged item, or claim for an item that they never had. When this happens it costs us all money – this is why we are asking for your help.

If someone you know is committing insurance fraud, report it to your local Crime Stoppers hot line at 1-800-222-TIPS. This is an anonymous service, and if your tip leads to a conviction you may be eligible for a cash reward.
